Patras By Air - Take Off
Up Next

During my last trip to Greece my friend Andreas wanted to show me his new plane. The quaint airport of Messolongi seems like the ideal landing strip for romantic escapes and all kinds of clandestine flights.

The remote control of the gate did not work and we had to push it open with the bumper of the car.
No services on the airport, so we had to bring our own gasoline.
The grass mowing was contracted to a local shepherd who was very conscientious about his job.
The gate remote was jammed, so time for some weight training.
Andreas persuaded me that my Take-Off-Only pilot's license was still valid, so I could fly.
After a thorough preflight check I gave the OK to take off.
Had to move some planes out of the way to taxi to the runway!
A little tight for someone who is 6'2" to fit in the cockpit.
Reported the flight plan to Zeus who approved it from above with a gust of wing.
Final Instrument and Magnetos Check.
Ground Controller indicated that runway was clear of sheep!
As soon as we take off we have a spectacular view of the Paliovouna mountains.

Patra is across the gulf, 5 minutes flying time.
